Hiroshima, Nuclear Weapons, and the Buddha in us all.

What do Hiroshima, nuclear weapons, and the Buddha have to do with each other?

The Buddha is the only force that can defeat the Bomb and the threat of nuclear annihilation.

We are not speaking here of a superhuman being, or god, when we say the Buddha, but rather the power that each person inherently possesses to forge a tremendous inner transformation in one’s life, to elevate one’s state of life to the point that one gets beyond the narrow confines of a self-centered ego and strives for a state of compassion that encompasses the entire  human race.

This is possible, as is shown by the examples of many people.  But now, the task is to take humanity as a whole to a new level.

Is this possible?  Yes, it is; and this is the task that Buddhism has set itself to accomplish.

Below is a reading from my latest book, “The Buddha and the Dream of America”.

“The Buddha and the Dream of America” is available through bookstores, and online in paperback and e-book format from either The Tribute Series or Amazon.com.  James Hilgendorf’s other books, also available through the same sources, include “Life *& Death: A Buddhist Perspective”, “The New Superpower”, and “The Great New Emerging Civilization.”
